Asteroid
Rotate, thrust, fire, and survive a field of rocks that keeps breaking apart.
About Asteroid
Asteroid is a modern browser take on the classic arcade space shooter that defined a generation of coin-op gaming. You pilot a small triangular ship in the middle of an asteroid field, and every large rock you shoot splits into smaller, faster fragments. Clearing the screen means dealing with a growing swarm of debris, each piece drifting in its own direction.
Movement uses inertia, so your ship keeps gliding after you stop thrusting, which makes positioning just as important as aim. Fly off one edge and you reappear on the opposite side, a trick that can save you in a pinch. On Classroom 6X it loads instantly and needs only a keyboard.
How to play Asteroid
Destroy every asteroid on screen to advance to the next, tougher wave. Rotate your ship to aim, then fire lasers to break rocks apart. Large asteroids become medium ones, which then split into small, speedy pieces, so you must clean up fragments as they scatter. Apply thrust to reposition, but remember that you keep drifting until you counter-thrust. Colliding with any rock costs a life. Use screen wrap to escape danger, and save the hyperspace jump for emergencies, since it can drop you somewhere just as risky. Survive as many waves as possible for a high score.

Tips & strategy
- Stay near the center and rotate to shoot rather than flying around; constant thrusting makes you harder to control.
- Break large asteroids one at a time. Splitting several at once floods the screen with fast fragments.
- Use short thrust bursts and counter-thrust to stop; drifting at speed is how most lives are lost.
- Remember screen wrap applies to rocks too, so watch the edges for fragments about to reappear near you.
- Treat hyperspace as a last resort, since it teleports you to a random spot that may be next to a rock.
Game features

Asteroid FAQ
What happens when you shoot an asteroid?
Large asteroids break into medium pieces when hit, and medium ones split into small, fast fragments. Only the smallest pieces are destroyed outright. That means each shot can create more danger before it removes it, so pacing your fire and cleaning up fragments one area at a time is key to surviving each wave.
How does screen wrap work in Asteroid?
When your ship flies off any edge of the screen, it reappears on the opposite side, keeping its speed and direction. Asteroids follow the same rule. You can use this to slip away from a cluster of rocks, but it can also bring fragments back toward you unexpectedly, so keep an eye on all edges.
Can I play Asteroid on a Chromebook?
Yes. Asteroid runs in the browser with no installation, so it works well on Chromebooks and school laptops. It needs only the arrow keys and Space, and its lightweight graphics keep performance smooth even on older devices. A physical keyboard is recommended, as it is not designed for touch.
